WEBINAR: New Jersey Releases Regulations Governing Adult-use Cannabis Market
TRENTON, N.J. — The New Jersey Cannabis Regulatory Commission on Thursday adopted initial rules and regulations that will govern the state’s forthcoming adult-use cannabis market.
Attorneys and regulatory specialists from the New Jersey office of national cannabis law firm Vicente Sederberg LLP are available to provide commentary and analysis. The firm will share a summary of the regulations on its VS Insights blog by early next week, and it will host a free public webinar on August 26 (see below for details).
“The rules govern many aspects of the process for accepting license applications, including priority access for small businesses and businesses that are owned by disadvantaged groups,” said Cranford-based VS counsel Jennifer Cabrera, who leads the firm’s New Jersey office. “While the CRC did not specify the timing or contents of the forthcoming Notice of Applications Acceptance, we now have a framework for licensing.”
All six classes of license are available as annual licenses, microbusiness licenses, and conditional licenses. An upcoming application for testing licenses will also be available.
In addition to licensing, the rules cover a wide range of areas, including standards for packaging and labeling; guidelines for cultivators, manufacturers, and retailers; and the authority of municipalities. The rules are effective immediately and will remain in place for one year.
“The adoption of regulations and licensing guidelines is an important step toward establishing a legal adult-use cannabis market in New Jersey,” said VS partner Adam Fine. “The rules take into account the lessons learned in other states and provide the framework for a dynamic, equitable, and responsible cannabis industry. We applaud the commission for developing them in a timely manner and keeping the process on track.”
