LOS ANGELES- Trulieve, a medical cannabis company, has contributed an additional $5 million to support the campaign for legalizing recreational cannabis in Florida. This donation, made on July 15th, was directed to the Smart & Safe Florida political committee, which is spearheading the initiative for the November ballot.

According to the state Division of Elections, Trulieve’s total contributions to the committee amount to approximately $60.39 million as of July 19th. The committee has raised a total of $66.475 million in cash and nearly $129,000 in in-kind contributions, spending $53.963 million thus far.

The proposed initiative, labeled Amendment 3 on the ballot, would permit adults aged 21 and older to possess, purchase, and use cannabis products and accessories for nonmedical personal consumption, including through smoking or ingestion. This follows the approval of medical cannabis in Florida through a constitutional amendment passed by voters in 2016.
