BANGOR – Curaleaf Holdings Inc. launched its recreational customer sales at a newly opened dispensary, marking the company’s first step into Maine’s adult-use sector after years of serving only medical patients.

The store sits next to Curaleaf’s established medical outlet opened in 2021 and features easy access near the Bangor Mall and local hotels. Both sites now operate under one roof for adult-use buyers aged 21-plus, offering the full range of Curaleaf’s branded goods – from flower and pre-rolls to vapes and edibles.

This addition brings Curaleaf’s Maine operations to five total locations, including medical-focused sites in Ellsworth, Auburn and Wells. Nationally, it represents the company’s 161st retail outlet.

“Each new milestone in our retail footprint reflects Curaleaf’s mission to expand access to high-quality, tested, legal Cannabis,” said Boris Jordan, Curaleaf’s chairman and CEO, in a statement. “We’re proud to welcome adult-use customers in Bangor while continuing to support Maine’s medical community with best-in-class products, expert guidance, and a customer-first experience.”

Maine’s recreational Cannabis program, approved by voters in 2016 and fully operational since 2020, has settled into a steady rhythm. Sales topped $246 million across medical and adult-use channels last year, holding firm at roughly $250 million annually as consumer habits level off after initial surges.

With 180 licensed retail stores statewide, the market supports a mix of MSOs and homegrown players, though growth has tapered since the $82 million recorded in 2021. Curaleaf’s entry targets this mature, albeit turbulent space, leveraging its existing medical base to draw in new buyers without starting from scratch.
