German Cannabis Policy Reform Takes Center Stage at ICBC Berlin 2023
BERLIN– The International Cannabis Business Conference (ICBC) is gearing up for a timely and significant political discussion on cannabis policy reform in Germany. Building on the historic panel discussion held in 2021, where all major German political parties came together to discuss national cannabis reform, ICBC Berlin 2023 will once again serve as a platform for influential policymakers to delve into pressing issues surrounding cannabis regulation.
The panel discussion, titled ‘Cannabis Policy Reform Efforts in Germany,’ will cover a wide range of topics, including the development of stimulant regulation, adult-use legalization, medical cannabis policy, commercial hemp, and CBD. The session will be moderated by Jürgen Neumeyer, managing director of the German Cannabis Business Association (BvCW e.V.), who will lead the conversation alongside Dr. Kirsten Kappert-Gonther, MdB.
Dr. Kappert-Gonther, a psychotherapist and politician from the Green Party, has been a member of the Bundestag since the 2017 federal election. Currently serving as the acting Chairwoman of the Health Committee of the German Bundestag and Spokeswoman for Cannabis Policy of the Bündnis90/Die Grünen Parliamentary Group, she brings a wealth of expertise to the discussion.
The timing of this political dialogue is particularly significant, as Germany finds itself at a crucial juncture in cannabis policy, not only within its borders but also across the European continent. While adult-use cannabis legalization efforts are gaining traction in several European countries, all eyes are on Germany, with its influential position as Europe’s largest economy and its potential to set a benchmark for the region.
As the first country in Europe to pass a national legalization measure, Malta’s impact on the continent’s cannabis landscape is yet to fully materialize. However, when Germany takes the leap towards legalization, its domino effect is expected to reverberate throughout Europe, shaping the future of the continent’s emerging cannabis industry.
The ICBC Berlin event serves as a vital platform for networking, industry education, and celebrating cannabis culture. With over 5,000 cannabis leaders from more than 80 countries, including representatives from every sector of the industry, international policymakers, and industry service providers, the conference offers unparalleled opportunities to connect with investors, entrepreneurs, and industry regulators.
In addition to the B2B event, which is the largest of its kind in Europe, the International Cannabis Business Conference will host a Global Investment Forum in Berlin on June 27th, further solidifying its commitment to fostering growth and collaboration within the industry.
As the cannabis policy landscape in Germany and Europe undergoes transformation, ICBC Berlin 2023 stands at the forefront, providing a platform for thought-provoking discussions and laying the groundwork for the future of the cannabis industry in the region.
