Portland Named America’s Most Weed-Friendly City According to New Survey
LOS ANGELES– Portland, Oregon has been named America’s most weed-friendly city, according to a new survey by online publications Real Estate Witch and Leafly. The report analyzed various factors, such as the legality of weed, dispensary data, and prices to rank the best places for cannabis in 2023.
Portland boasts the most affordable cannabis prices in the US, with a high-quality ounce costing only $210 – 34% less than the national average. In contrast, Washington D.C. has the most expensive weed, with an ounce of high-quality cannabis costing $590 – 87% more than average.
The study also found that Portland has nearly 4.5 times more dispensaries than the average city, with 13.7 dispensaries per 100,000 residents compared to the average of 3.1 dispensaries per 100,000 residents. Meanwhile, Oklahoma City has the most dispensaries, with 48.7 dispensaries per 100,000 residents, and the most cannabis-prescribing doctors, with two per 100,000 residents, even though cannabis is only legal for medicinal use.
The top 10 best cities for cannabis in 2023, according to the report, are Portland, Denver, Buffalo, Seattle, Baltimore, Las Vegas, Sacramento, San Diego, Los Angeles, and San Francisco.
On the other hand, the study found Birmingham, Alabama, to be the worst place for weed in 2023. The state’s restrictive laws have resulted in just 0.5 dispensaries per 100,000 residents, 84% less than the average. Furthermore, high-quality marijuana costs $340 an ounce, 8% more than average. Other cities on the list of the five worst weed cities include Memphis, Louisville, Milwaukee, Indianapolis, Nashville, Charlotte, Houston, Atlanta, and San Antonio.
Interestingly, despite Portland taking the top spot, more than half of Americans believe that Los Angeles is the most weed-friendly city, followed by San Diego and Sacramento.
