New Hampshire Governor Maintains Opposition to Cannabis Legalization
LOS ANGELES- New Hampshire Governor Chris Sununu continues to oppose the legalization of recreational cannabis, even as the state’s House of Representatives advances related legislation. In February 2025, the House passed House Bill 360, which seeks to legalize the possession and limited cultivation of cannabis for adults aged 21 and over.
Despite the House’s approval, Governor Sununu has expressed reservations about full legalization. However, he has indicated a willingness to consider measures that would permit medical cannabis patients to cultivate their own plants at home. This potential policy shift aims to address concerns about patient access and affordability within the state’s therapeutic cannabis program.
New Hampshire’s therapeutic cannabis program, established in 2013, currently allows patients with qualifying conditions to obtain cannabis from licensed Alternative Treatment Centers. The program does not permit home cultivation, which has been a point of contention among patients and advocates seeking more flexible access options.
