Texas Lieutenant Governor Prioritizes THC Ban in 2025 Legislative Agenda
LOS ANGELES- Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick has designated the prohibition of all consumable tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) products as a primary objective for Texas’ 2025 legislative session. Senate Bill 3, introduced on January 29, 2025, aims to ban all forms of consumable THC in the state.
This initiative responds to concerns that retailers have exploited existing agricultural laws to sell unregulated THC products, some of which reportedly exceed the legal THC limit of 0.3%. Critics argue that these products pose health risks and are easily accessible to minors.
The proposed legislation has elicited varied responses. Some lawmakers support the ban, citing public safety concerns, while industry stakeholders advocate for refined regulations and enforcement rather than an outright prohibition. The Texas Hemp Business Council, for instance, suggests implementing age restrictions and stricter testing protocols to ensure consumer safety.
As the legislative session progresses, the future of THC products in Texas remains uncertain, with significant implications for both the cannabis industry and consumers.
