LOS ANGELES- Stockton University in New Jersey is set to become the first school in the state to offer an undergraduate degree in cannabis studies. The Bachelor of Science in Hemp and Cannabis Business Management will be available through Stockton’s School of Business starting this fall.

According to Stockton Adjunct Professor Rob Mejia, the cannabis job market in New Jersey has seen a significant increase, with marijuana-related jobs rising by 66%. Mejia highlighted the economic impact, noting, “This year, New Jersey is on track to sell over $1 billion of cannabis products. You have to pay attention to a $1 billion business. Cannabis and hemp being so unique and regulated, you have to have special skills in order to get involved and be successful in the industry.”

The program will offer courses focusing on cannabis cultivation, social justice, and medical cannabis, while grounding students in fundamental business disciplines such as business policy and strategies, marketing principles, and macroeconomics. This new degree builds on Stockton’s existing Cannabis Studies minor, introduced in 2018, which has more than 70 graduates.

As the cannabis industry continues to grow rapidly, Stockton University’s new degree aims to equip students with the specialized skills needed to succeed in this unique and highly regulated field.
