Arizona to Launch Recreational Cannabis Home Delivery
LOS ANGELES- Starting November 2024, Arizona will permit home delivery for recreational cannabis, marking a significant shift in state policy. The Arizona Department of Health Services has approved this expansion, previously limited to medical cannabis patients. Now, residents aged 21 and older can receive home deliveries facilitated by licensed dispensaries or partnered third-party services.
Recreational cannabis became legally available in Arizona in 2021, following the approval of Proposition 207 in 2020. This change not only reflects growing acceptance but also builds on a market that exceeded $1 billion in sales by 2023. The move to include delivery aims to increase access across the state and is welcomed by industry advocates like Ann Torrez from the Arizona Dispensaries Association, who highlighted the proactive nature of state regulations.
The state imposes a 16% excise tax on recreational cannabis sales, although this does not apply to medical cannabis. Under current laws, adults can possess up to one ounce of cannabis and five grams of concentrates. This new delivery option, regulated by dispensaries compliant with state guidelines, is expected to enhance convenience while adhering to Arizona’s existing licensing and regulatory framework.
