February Cannabis Haul Tops $9M in Rhode Island
PROVIDENCE – The regulated Cannabis market in Rhode Island recorded $9.32 million in total sales in February 2026, which is about a 4% increase from the $8.98 million tallied in February 2025, according to figures reported by the Rhode Island Cannabis Control Commission.
The breakdown shows adult-use purchases accounting for $8.33 million of the monthly total, with medical Cannabis sales adding $990,000. This brings the state’s Cannabis revenue for the first two months of 2026 to $19.5 million, following January’s $10.19 million in combined adult-use and medical sales.
The modest year-over-year gain in February points to a stable but measured expansion in Rhode Island’s Cannabis sector, which has generated over $323 million in total sales since adult-use retail began in December 2022. Analysts note that February’s dip from January may stem from the month’s fewer days or typical post-holiday spending patterns, though the overall trajectory remains positive with average transaction values holding steady around $36.
Currently served by just seven dispensaries, the market stands to gain from upcoming regulatory changes. State officials are reviewing 97 applications for up to 24 new retail licenses [split among open, social equity, and worker cooperative categories] with a lottery set for May 2026 and potential openings later in the year. This influx of outlets could broaden consumer access and lift future revenues, addressing geographic gaps in zones with fewer applicants.
Rhode Island’s Cannabis figures through early 2026 reflect a resilient industry poised for further development as new retailers enter the fray, offering a benchmark for other states monitoring East Coast markets.
