Record-Breaking Cannabis Sales in Massachusetts Reach $151.8 Million in June
BOSTON– Massachusetts witnessed an extraordinary surge in cannabis sales during the month of June, with total transactions reaching a remarkable $151.8 million, as reported by state figures. This impressive figure consists of $132.8 million in recreational cannabis sales and an additional $19 million in medical sales, according to the state’s Cannabis Control Commission (CCC).
Notably, cannabis flower continues to dominate the market, accounting for the majority of sales. In the week spanning June 26 to July 2, sales of cannabis buds alone amounted to $12.5 million, overshadowing other product categories. Vape cartridges followed at a distant second, generating $6.3 million in sales, while pre-rolled joints contributed $5 million to the total revenue for that week.
June emerged as the highest-grossing month of the year for recreational cannabis, surpassing the previous second-place holder, March, which recorded sales of $129.4 million. However, medical sales experienced a slight decline compared to the previous three months, though they have generally stabilized.
Since the launch of the recreational market in 2018, Massachusetts has amassed a total of $4.74 billion in recreational marijuana sales, while medical sales since 2019 have amounted to $1.08 billion, according to data provided by the CCC.
Remarkably, prices in Massachusetts have continued to plummet. The CCC’s findings indicate that in June, the average price of a gram of cannabis reached a historic low of $5.82, with an average ounce priced at $164.97. These figures represent the lowest recorded by the agency since it began tracking industry statistics. To put it into perspective, in January, the average price per gram was $7.11, and in June 2022, it stood at $10.58.
The state’s robust cannabis market continues to thrive, with June’s sales demonstrating remarkable growth. This achievement is a testament to Massachusetts’ evolving industry landscape, as well as the increasing accessibility and affordability of cannabis products for consumers.
