NEW HAVEN–According to the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection, cannabis sales to adults in Connecticut can start next week. On Tuesday, January 10, no sooner than 10 a.m., or as local zoning permits, licensed hybrid merchants will be permitted to start selling cannabis products to all adults age 21 and over.

In a statement, DCP Commissioner Michelle Seagull stated, “I am proud of the hard work our team has done to fulfill the goal of opening adult-use sales in a safe, well-regulated market.” We urge individuals who decide to buy and consume these items carefully after sales start on January 10 because we know many people are eager to join in this market, whether as consumers or as businesses.”

According to the government, every producer of medicinal cannabis currently in operation has satisfied the conditions for an enhanced license that enables them to serve both the adult-use cannabis market and the medical cannabis market.

When the market starts, sales will be capped at 1/4 ounce of cannabis flower, or its equivalent, each transaction. Transaction caps will be examined in the future. Up to five ounces of medical cannabis can be bought monthly by patients in the program.

The department stated that several product types and sizes might be combined into a single transaction for a maximum of 1/4 ounce of cannabis flower or its equivalent.

Which cannabis products can be bought legally in Connecticut?

Following are some examples of what 1/4 of an ounce of cannabis flower or its equivalent might resemble:

14 pre-rolls weighing 0.5 grams each or as much as 7 pre-rolled cigarettes weighing 1 grams each. or any mixture up to 7 grams in total, which is equal to 1/4 ounce.

The types and sizes of edibles vary. .08 grams of cannabis flower can be equated to a standard-sized brownie or cookie. The maximum THC content per edible serving is 5 mg.

Prior to January 10 or at one of the nine medical-only dispensaries in the state, patients in the medical cannabis program are advised to purchase any necessary medications. This is because during the first few weeks of adult-use sales, long lines and traffic are anticipated around the hybrid retailers.
