Nevada Approves Cannabis Consumption Lounges Starting by the End of 2021
LAS VEGAS– The Nevada legislature passed a bill on Monday allowing cannabis lounges. One kind of licence allows an existing dispensary to add a space for a lounge. Strangely, only one lounge is allowed no matter how many locations a dispensary has in Nevada. The other model permits independent businesses to build a consumption lounge with single-use cannabis products for sale.
Since Nevada first legalized recreational cannabis in 2017 in Nevada, many tourists have discovered that while they can purchase cannabis, they have nowhere to legally consume it as many hotels forbid smoking cannabis in the rooms or other areas of the hotels. Cannabis products are generally not permitted inside casinos and hotels.
The first consumption lounges could open by the end of 2021. Starting July 1, dispensaries can start the application process for licensing with the Cannabis Compliance Board to open a consumption lounge.
